Elected Officials and their voters. |

The Russian-American Community Coalition (RACC) has asked Mayor Michael Bloomberg, Speaker Gifford Miller and members of the City Council Michael Nelson and Domenic Recchia for assistance in solving important issues concerning the life of the community. Mayor Bloomberg forwarded the letter from the Coalition for a “response” to precisely that department which is accused of infringing upon the civil rights of the community’s population and against the discriminatory policies for which the Coalition stands. We are not convinced that the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene will voluntarily admit its mistakes. Speaker Miller reported that he had sent an official inquiry to the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene with a request to account for the incident under investigation. City Councilman Nelson’s Deputy Chef of Staff Mr. Varley had meeting with Director of RACC Sergey Kovalyov to discuss support of the “I am my own boss” project, as well as assistance concerning development of the Coalition’s community activity. But after this meeting he never answered the e-mail letter and phone calls addressed to him and didn’t inform Coalition about Councilman Nelson decision. City Councilman Domenic Recchia ignored all requests of the Coalition and never once answered the letters addressed to him. The Board of Directors declared that in such instances, when elected officials ignore the official appeals of the Coalition, to employ more effective measures of mass “out-door” actions for attracting their attention to their voters. |
